As we move into the second half of 2009, I am amazed at what I have seen the Lord do in the past few months. The greatest thing He has done for me is allow me to feel His presence in ways that only a heavenly tongue can tell. I am awed by His power that has brought healing to the multitudes and salvation to multiplied thousands.
I am ever mindful of the fact that the Word of God clearly states that all glory and all honor and all majesty belong to Him and Him alone. Only then can we move into the deeper dimension of prayer and God’s mighty power as we take the life-saving, miracle-working Gospel of Jesus Christ to the nations!
Back in the seventies when this ministry began, the Lord said to me, “As long as you give Me the glory, I will continue to use you.” My commitment to that calling is stronger than ever, for I have found, as I grow older, my commitments become deeper. I’m finding that the longer a person walks with God, the less of that person remains.
It is like the lyrics of the old hymn that begins, “Some of self, some of Thee.” The second line continues with, “Less of self, more of Thee.” The last line says, “None of self, all of Thee.” What a wonderful truth it is, for when we reach that place, all of God’s power is truly available to us!
I am discovering more and more that the Christian life is a process of dying to self. The longer you serve the Lord and walk with Him, the deeper your commitment gets; and ultimately, less and less of you remain.
God wants us to get to the place where we can truly say, “All of God and none of me.” He wants us to reach a place of total surrender to Him. Only then can He truly use us mightily.
That is why Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). The Christian life is a life of death to self, and death to self is a process. None of us can reach it overnight.
