Time Management for Youth

a4_99999449 Time management means organizing your schedule in a way that allows you to get things done in a timely manner, without feeling too overwhelmed or stressed out. Can you relate to any of these on-the-go scenarios?

1. Melissa has track practice on Wednesdays, but she has been forgetting about it lately. What can she do to remember practice?

Use a day planner or calendar. Write down schoolwork assignments, meetings, practices, activities, and important events or tasks so you won't forget about them.

2. Sarah keeps forgetting her math homework. What can she do to stay on track?

Make a "To Do" list. If you have important tasks that need to get done, write them all down and check them off as you complete them. Include deadlines for when they must get done.

Sibling Rivalry

a4_99999652This time of year, a lot of focus is put on spending time with family. Holidays and family get-togethers will require you to spend a lot of quality time with your brother(s) and/or sister(s). The thought of any amount of time with one or more of your siblings can seem like punishment if you do not enjoy spending time with them. Read on to find out more about how to deal with sibling relationships when it feels like you will never get along.

Your brothers and sisters can upset you sometimes. You may get angry if they take something that is yours, go into your room, hit you, or bother you when you have friends over. Your older brothers or sisters may try to boss you around and tell you what to do. Your younger brothers or sisters may borrow your things or want to be around you all the time.

The Moving Blues

a4_99999248Heather didn't want to move. It had been hard enough to make the transition from junior high to high school, especially when many of her friends went to different schools. Now she liked her friends, she liked her school, and she liked her routine. She didn't want to leave the big city for a small town and felt angry with her parents and out of step with everyone else.

These feelings are common for teens who have to move. It isn't easy for anyone to pack up and leave everything that is familiar and try to fit into a new environment. But it's especially hard during a time in your life when there are already so many physical and emotional changes taking place.
